Basic First Aid

Introductory Level First Aid

With basic first aid training and using basic first aid only, you can learn to treat many different conditions:

  • Cuts and bleeds
  • Scrapes
  • Bruises
  • Burns
  • Rashes
  • Stings and bites
  • Sprains and strains
  • Broken bones

Advanced Level First Aid

There are also times in life when first aid may be a matter of life and death such as in cases of:

  • Severe bleeding
  • Severe broken bones that pierce the skin
  • Severe allergic reactions that compromise breathing
  • Snake bites
  • Wildness First Aid situations where you are too far away to receive professional medical help
  • Severe burns Red skin with orange patches that may appear glassy and blisters that may be slow to form refers to what is called a 2nd degree burn:
  • Flesh that is burned through and charred, dry, leathery, and possibly exposing muscle or bone refers to what is called a 3rd degree burn

In the most extreme cases where the individual is no longer responding to you, appears unconscious, or otherwise shows signs of severe distress such as difficulty breathing and other such indications, first aid is essential and quick action can prevent life threatening consequences.
